NIDA provided partial support for an intensive workshop on scientific writing and preparing research manuscripts for publication. Participants included 35 doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and graduate students from the Middle East and North Africa. The International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Hashemite University at Zarqa, Jordan, organized the interactive workshop, which was held May 31–June 2, 2015. The workshop was co-chaired by Sukaina Al-Zyoud, Ph.D., Hashemite University; Willi Mcfarland, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., UCSF; and Richard Pates, D.Clin.Psych., ISAJE. Dr. Pates, who is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Substance Use, invited participants to submit articles for a special issue on substance abuse in the region.
