Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
The essential characteristics of the transgenic genotyping service that limit the availability to a sole source are daily pickup and transportation of samples from the NIH Bethesda campus, plus storage of remaining samples after analysis is completed, and return of samples to the Laboratory on Neuroplasticity as needed. Only this suggested source can furnish these requirements, to the exclusion of other sources, because other companies do not offer any of these options.

All testing is performed in duplicate for each allele and a housekeeping gene with each sample to ensure consistent yield and quality. Additionally, Transnetyx is the only genotyping service that provides pickup and transportation of samples, plus storage of the remaining samples for future testing if needed. Tissue samples obtained from animals in breeding colonies by The Section on Molecular Neuroscience personnel are prepared for transportation and deposited into TransnetYX TAGCenter for pickup. Samples are analyzed and results made available within 72-hrs of arrival at TransnetYX facility Remaining samples are stored for up to six months, and can be returned to researcher if needed.
