Dr. Verdin’s laboratory focuses on the transcriptional regulation of HIV by chromatin and associated factors.
The ability of HIV to establish a latent infection is determined at the transcriptional level. Dr. Verdin and his research team hope to use their understanding of basic transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of HIV to manipulate the state of latency. Their ultimate goal in these experiments is to generate medicine that will be used to eradicate HIV infection from infected patients.
