HHS Works to Improve Testing for Fentanyl

SAMHSA's Dr. Christopher Jones discusses how there are several different types of fentanyls, and how officials are developing more comprehensive toxicology tests.

Dr. Chris Jones speaking: We certainly are working across HHS with our medical examiner, or coroner colleagues at the state and local level to modify testing as quickly as we can to identify the specific fentanyl's that are being involved.

And actually a couple of years ago we found out that acetyl fentanyl was emerging in the US because it was being missed and when it was sent out for special lab testing they actually were able to identify it because most normal tests in emergency departments didn't pick it up.
