(Scene 1: Mom loses her cool)

Daughter: Hey Mom! Jane just called and wants me to go with her to Brooke’s house. Can I go?

Mom: You know it’s a school night and you haven’t finished your homework as usual, and you’d be out too late.

Daughter: So what! I’ll be back by 9:30 and I can finish my report then.

Mom: I said no and I mean it! You’ve been out for the past two nights. You’re always asking for more, more, more.

Daughter: What’s the big deal? Jane’s mom is letting her go, I don’t see why I can’t.

Mom: I don’t care what Jane’s mom is doing. You’re not going!

Daughter: So what do you want me to do, sit around here with you? That’s boring! I’m going and you can’t stop me!

Mom: You wanna bet!

Daughter: Your such a bitch! I can’t believe it!

Mom: What did you say? You’re not leaving this house.

(Scene 2: Mom remains calm)

Daughter: Hey Mom! Jane just called and wants me to go with her to Brooke’s house. Can I go?

Mom: No, remember it’s a school night and you haven’t done all your homework. You’d be out late.

Daughter: So what! I’ll be back by 9:30 and I can finish my report then.

Mom: The answer is no, Claire.

Daughter: What’s the big deal? Jane’s mom is letting her go, I don’t see why I can’t.

Mom: Claire, I said no and I mean it. Please don’t ask again and if you keep arguing they will be no phone calls tonight.

Daughter: Fine!
