Plenary session speakers at the 14th NIDA International Forum documented the commonalities among these "Disorders of Desire," citing clear overlaps in implicated brain regions and similar patterns of compulsive self-administration, tolerance, craving, comorbidity, disruption of inhibitory control, and impaired decision-making.

Fogarty Meeting Focuses on International Tobacco Research

Latin American Network Boosts Scientific Exchange

The Red Latinamericano de Investigaciones en Drogas (known commonly as REDLA) is making an impact on the sphere of drug abuse and addiction research in Latin America.

A network of academic researchers who share an interest in developing research on the drug problem in Latin America, REDLA is a joint effort between NIDA and the Organization of American States, through their Inter-American Drug Control Commission (CICAD), with the collaboration of the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse.

Italy Translates NIDA Website as Part of Binational Agreement

Building on the 2011 binational agreement between NIDA and the Italian Department for Anti-Drug Policies (DAP), Italy has translated the NIDA website, Easy-to-Read Drug Facts, into Italian. The easy-to-read website features pictures and videos to help readers understand the text about drug abuse, addiction, and treatment. The pages are easy to print out to share with people who do not have computers.
