NIDA Humphrey Fellows Participate in International Meetings

NIDA Hubert H. Humphrey Drug Abuse Research Fellows recently participated in international meetings in Indonesia and Austria:

  • The U.S. Department of State celebrated the 40th Anniversary of its Humphrey Fellowships with regional meetings for alumni. Former NIDA Humphrey Fellows Lionel Kulathilake (Sri Lanka, 2011-2012), Rosie Myint (Burma [Myanmar], 2012-2013), and Tran Tram (Vietnam, 2017-2018) participated as panelists at a session entitled, "Addressing Substance Abuse and Mental Health," at the anniversary meeting in Jakarta. During this session, the panelists addressed priorities, trends, and solutions in substance abuse and mental health.
  • A dozen current and former NIDA Humphrey Fellows participated in the 5th International Society of Substance Use Professionals meeting, held in Vienna July 1-5, 2019. The group joined Virginia Commonwealth University Humphrey Fellowship Program Coordinator J. Randy Koch to exchange information. Fellows included: Martin Agwogie (Nigeria, 2017-2018), Ayesha al Hosani (United Arab Emirates, 2017-2018), Yu Yu Aung (Burma [Myanmar], 2014-2015), Kevin Goulbourne (Jamaica, 2006-2007), Zoey Juríčeková (Slovak Republic, 2015-2016), Rehana Kader (South Africa, 2006-2007), Rogers Kasirye (Uganda, 2011-2012), Adam Kurilla (Slovak Republic, 2019-2020), Duc Nguyen (Vietnam, 2006-2007), Bolanle Ola (Nigeria, 2012-2013), Mutaawe Rogers (Uganda, 2015-2016), and Nicola Workman (Brazil, 2018-2019).
