I-Science: NIDA's Look into the Importance of Evidence Based Practices

NIDA's I-Science videos give viewers a glimpse of scientists through the "eyes", and hand held lens of NIDA specialists. This interview gives a personal perspective of Operation PAR, CEO Nancy Hamilton on the importance of evidence based practices for addiction and treatment. She is interviewed by NIDA's Dr. Jack Stein.

Nancy Hamilton: Evidence based practices and protocols are very important in the behavioral health care field for both mental health and substance abuse and for two reasons. One is that the clients are likely to get better at a higher rate than should you not use these practices. And the second reason is, that for reimbursement in order to do your job, funders and third party payers are requiring you to do things that are science-based, that are effective and efficient. So it behooves people that care about their clients, and that care about continuing to deliver services to really look into adopting evidence based practices.
