NIDA Selects New INVEST and INVEST/CTN Fellows

Scientists from Greece, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and The Netherlands have been awarded NIDA INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellowships, and a scientist from China has been awarded a NIDA INVEST/Clinical Trials Network (CTN) Drug Abuse Research Fellowship. The awards provide postdoctoral training with a NIDA grantee in the United States. The new INVEST Fellows are:

NIDA Welcomes Fellows at Orientation

NIDA International Program fellows from around the world visited NIDA headquarters during an orientation January 31 and February 1, 2013. NIDA International Program Director Steven W. Gust, Ph.D., and Associate Director Dale Weiss welcomed the 16 fellows. Participants included the Hubert H. Humphrey Drug Abuse Research Fellows from Virginia Commonwealth and Johns Hopkins universities. They were joined by scientists working with U.S.

Apply by April 1 for NIDA International Fellowships

NIDA International Program postdoctoral fellows conduct a mentored research project with a NIDA-funded investigator, make valuable professional contacts, and learn about the U.S. National Institutes of Health grant application process. Applications are due April 1, 2013, for three fellowships:

Researchers from Ireland and Ukraine have been selected as NIDA INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellows, and a scientist from Indonesia has been selected as a NIDA INVEST/CTN Drug Abuse Research Fellow.

New NIDA International Program Fellowship Application Deadlines

The NIDA International Program is announcing new application deadlines for its three postdoctoral training fellowships. The deadlines are being adjusted to streamline the application receipt and review processes.

Application deadlines for the following fellowships are now April 1:

New INVEST Fellow Investigates Cognitive Enhancer

New INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellow Sujung Yoon, M.D., Ph.D., South Korea, will spend 12 months under the mentorship of Perry F. Renshaw, F.M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., The Brain Institute, University of Utah, to focus on the application of multinuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy markers of brain health in response to treatment.

New Fellows Get Oriented to Research Resources in U.S.

Earlier this month, the NIDA International Program welcomed 27 fellows from as many nations as part of an orientation for new fellowship awardees. International Program Director Steven W. Gust, Ph.D., and Associate Director Dale Weiss hosted the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows from Virginia Commonwealth University and Johns Hopkins University, who were joined by NIDA INVEST and INVEST/CTN fellows for the 3-day orientation.

NIDA Announces Another INVEST Award

Hongqiang Sun, M.D., Ph.D., China, has been selected to receive a 2010–2011 NIDA International Visiting Scientists and Technical Exchange Program (INVEST) Drug Abuse Research Fellowship. He will be working with mentor Thomas R. Kosten, M.D., at the Baylor College of Medicine and DeBakey Veterans Administration Medical Center in Houston, Texas, to investigate the effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions for smoking cessation.

NIDA Welcomes New Fellows

NIDA staff welcomed 26 fellows from 22 nations as part of an orientation for new fellowship awardees. International Program Director Dr. Steven W. Gust and Associate Director Dale Weiss hosted the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows from Virginia Commonwealth University, Johns Hopkins University, and Emory University, who were joined by NIDA INVEST and INVEST/CTN Fellows, and a DISCA awardee for the 3-day orientation.
