Lower Rates of Cigarette and Marijuana Smoking Among Exercising Teens

NIDA Notes
October 2009
line graph showing downward trend for all daily smoking, with lowest reported for nearly or every day exercisers, similar trends shown for past month marijuana use, however marijuana use does not show the steady downward trend of smoking. Teens who exercise regularly are less likely than less active peers to have smoked cigarettes daily or to have abused marijuana in the past month. This pattern has persisted over the past decade, according to an annual survey of the nation's high school students.
