NIDA Supports Poster Session at Annual Prevention Research Meeting

The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) recently welcomed scientists and experts from around the world to explore prevention science from a global health perspective with the intent of fostering worldwide rapid development of evidence-based policies, strategies, and programs.

Researchers Attend Meeting on the Basic Parent Management Training-Oregon Model

NIDA supported the participation of two U.S. researchers at a November 23–27, 2010, meeting in Mexico City on the Basic Parent Management Training-Oregon (PMTO) Model. The meeting was organized by Dr. Maria Elena Medina-Mora Icaza, Mexican National Institute of Psychiatry, “Dr. Ramón de la Fuente Múñiz,” to advance the binational research project, Development and Implementation of a Training Model in Positive Parenting Practices in Mexican Families With Children Who Present Behavior Problems.

Former NIDA Humphrey Fellow Directs Brazilian Integrated Prevention and Treatment Project

The Brazilian Ministry of Justice and the Brazilian Secretariat for Drug and Alcohol Policies has awarded a large grant to the Center for Drug and Alcohol Research at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, to integrate drug abuse treatment and prevention programs in 60 counties in the states of Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Vitoria, and Brasilia. Former NIDA Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow Flavio Pechansky, M.D., Ph.D., M.Sc., Director of the Center for Drug and Alcohol Research, will coordinate the project.
