NIDA International Forum Focuses on New and Emerging Psychoactive Substances

More than 260 participants from 61 countries attended the 17th Annual NIDA International Forum, which was held June 8–11, 2012, in Palm Springs, California. The meeting focused on the growing public health problem of new and emerging psychoactive substances, which are mostly unregulated compounds that are specifically designed to circumvent drug laws and mimic the effects of illicit drugs by slightly altering the chemical structure of a known drug. A joint College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD)/NIDA International Forum poster session featured presentations by 160 U.S.

The NIDA International Program held a series of webinars this spring to help participants of the 16th NIDA International Forum prepare their poster and oral presentations.

NIDA International Forum Focuses on Collaboration Among Research Organizations and Binational Scientific Teams

“Find good partners, start small, and take advantage of every research training and funding opportunity available.” That was the theme of presenters at the 16th Annual NIDA International Forum, which featured reports on U.S. initiatives to improve evidence-based drug treatment, research training, and policy implementation around the world.

New Fellowship Opportunity for Mexican Postdoctoral Scientists

A new fellowship program will enable talented Mexican postdoctoral scientists to devote 12 months to drug abuse prevention research in the United States.

NIDA and the Mexican National Institute of Psychiatry Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz (NIP), along with the Mexican National Commission Against Addictions (CONADIC) and the Society for Prevention Research, have established the United States–Mexico Drug Abuse Prevention Research Fellowship.

NIDA International Announces 2011 Awards of Excellence Winners

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) International Program is pleased to announce the selection of the 2011 Awards of Excellence winners, who are recognized for their outstanding contributions to international cooperation in drug abuse research and training.
