DISCA and USDISCA Awards Support Research Collaborations

Senior drug abuse researchers from Taiwan and the United States have been named Distinguished International Scientists, receiving support from the NIDA International Program to advance their collaborations with colleagues in the United States and Russia, respectively:

NIDA Welcomes New Fellows

NIDA staff welcomed 26 fellows from 22 nations as part of an orientation for new fellowship awardees. International Program Director Dr. Steven W. Gust and Associate Director Dale Weiss hosted the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows from Virginia Commonwealth University, Johns Hopkins University, and Emory University, who were joined by NIDA INVEST and INVEST/CTN Fellows, and a DISCA awardee for the 3-day orientation.

Dutch Researcher Uses DISCA Award To Explore Prevention Research

Harrie Jonkman, Dr.S., Verwey-Jonker Institute, The Netherlands, has received a NIDA Distinguished International Scientist Collaboration Award (DISCA) to extend his collaboration with J. David Hawkins, Ph.D., University of Washington in Seattle. With previous support from the NIDA International Program and the Dutch Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) through the U.S.–Netherlands Binational Agreement, the two have collaborated on implementing and assessing the outcomes of the Communities That Care prevention intervention in 10 Dutch and 12 U.S. cities.

NIDA Selects Three New Distinguished International Scientists

NIDA has selected senior researchers from Brazil, China, and Taiwan to receive Distinguished International Scientist Collaboration Awards (DISCA). The awards will support a 1-month research exchange visit between the scientists and their U.S. partners. The DISCA awardees are:
