El abuso de la metanfetamina –un psicoestimulante poderoso y altamente adictivo– es un problema extremadamente serio en los Estados Unidos. Aunque al comienzo la droga se usó principalmente en Hawai y las zonas occidentales de los Estados Unidos, el abuso de la metanfetamina continúa extendiéndose hacia el este, viéndose cada vez más afectadas las áreas urbanas y rurales en todo el país. De acuerdo con una encuesta nacional, hay aproximadamente 10 millones de personas en los Estados Unidos que han probado la metanfetamina por lo menos una vez en su vida.

The so-called "club drug" MDMA continues to be used by millions of Americans across the country, despite evidence of its potential harmful effects. 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, or ecstasy) has gained a deceptive reputation as a "safe" drug among its users. This illegal drug, which has both stimulant and psychedelic properties, is often taken for the feelings of well-being, stimulation, and the distortions in time and sensory perceptions that it produces.
