Assessing the Impact of Childhood Interventions

J. Kolko, Ph.D.
Dr. Kolko is associate professor of child psychiatry, psychology, and pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. At Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, he directs the Special Services Unit, a treatment research program for youth referred by the Juvenile Court. He is also a consultant for the Family Intervention Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, a regional child abuse program specializing in forensic interviewing and medical evaluation. Dr. Kolkos Federal and State grant funding has been directed toward the study and treatment of disruptive disorders, childhood firesetting, juvenile sexual offending, child physical abuse, and adolescent depression. He currently serves as principal investigator for a study designed to evaluate a treatment program that integrates clinical services and probation for juvenile sexual abusers (Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency) and for a clinical trial examining the effectiveness of multimodal, community-based treatment for young children with disruptive disorders (NIMH), called REACH (Resources to Enhance the Adjustment of Children). He is serving a second term on the Board of Directors of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children and is chair of its Research Committee. His primary clinical-research interests involve the evaluation of cognitive-behavioral and family-system treatments for youth involved as victims or offenders of violent/coercive behavior.
