Celia
B. Fisher, Ph.D.
Dr. Fisher is a professor of psychology and the director
of the Fordham University Center for Ethics Education, Bronx, New York.
Chair of the American Psychological Associations (APA) Revisions
Task Force for the APA Ethics Code, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees
for the APA Insurance Trust, and member of the NIMH Data and Safety
Monitoring Board, Dr. Fisher has been a member of the APA Ethics Committee
and has chaired the NYS Board for Licensure in Psychology, the Society
for Research in Child Development Committee for Ethical Conduct in Child
Development Research, and the National Task Force on Applied Developmental
Science. Dr. Fisher served for 15 years as the founding director of
Fordham Universitys doctoral training specialty in applied developmental
psychology and is currently associate chair for undergraduate studies.
She is a founding editor of the journal Applied Developmental Science,
the author of over 70 scholarly chapters and empirical articles on child
and adolescent development with current emphasis on ethnic minority
development and ethics in the science and practice of psychology, as
well as editor of five books including Ethics in Applied Developmental
Psychology: Emerging Issues in an Emerging Field (with W. Tryon),
Graduate Training in Applied Developmental Science (with P.
Murray & I. Sigel) and Ethics in Mental Health Research with
Children and Adolescents (with K. Hoagwood & P. Jensen). With
support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), she recently completed
an evaluation of a project on Integrating Research Ethics into the
Introductory Psychology Curriculum for which the Instructors
Manual and Student Workbook are available upon request. Dr. Fisher is
currently working on an NSF-supported research project on ethnic minority
attitudes toward ethical practices in adolescent risk research. Dr.
Fisher also runs national workshops on "Conducting Ethically Responsible
Science" for institutional review board members and scientists.
These workshops are supported by a grant awarded to Dr. Fisher by the
National Institutes of Health.
