Clinical trials are research studies in which one or more human subjects are prospectively assigned to one or more interventions (which may include placebo or other control) to evaluate the effects of those interventions on health-related biomedical or behavioral outcomes. There are several different ways to locate clinical trials in your area, depending on your needs.
- ClinicalTrials.gov is a database of publicly and privately supported clinical studies of human participants conducted around the world. All NIDA-funded studies are listed in this database, and information about current and past studies is included.
- The NIDA Clinical Trial Locator is a database of NIDA-funded study recruitment sites. Listed sites are based on the drug of abuse, the person’s location, and whether the person is ready to quit. When the person calls the recruitment contact, s/he can see if there is an active study or if there is one opening soon.
- The NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN) conducts clinical trials at 13 facilities or “Nodes” across the United States. This framework allows the CTN to provide a broad and powerful infrastructure for rapid, multi-site testing of promising science-based therapies and the subsequent delivery of these treatments to patients in a variety of treatment settings. Although the trials listed here can also be found in Clinicaltrials.gov, this page makes it easy to find all CTN-related studies and provides additional information about the CTN.
