Overview of the NIDA-SAMSHA Blending Teams

The purpose of the Initiative NIDA-SAMHSA Blending is to accelerate the dissemination and adoption of recently-tested, evidence-based treatment findings into mainstream drug abuse and addiction practice. The 1998 Institute of Medicine report noted that a 17-year gap exists between the publication of research results and its impact on treatment delivery. To reduce this gap and to dissolve the translational bottleneck that traditionally impedes flow of information from the research lab to the community, NIDA-SAMHSA joined together to create the Blending Initiative, which includes the implementation of Blending Teams.
